Privacy Policy

Last updated: 6 August 2026

This policy explains what happens to your data when you use mycharactertraits.com (the “site”). The short version: there are no accounts, no tracking cookies, no advertising and no analytics. The only time you give us personal information is if you choose to fill in the contact form.

What we collect

Nothing is required to browse the site. You don't need an account, we don't ask for your name or email address to read any page, and we run no analytics or advertising scripts.

If you send us a message through the contact form, we receive the name, email address and message you chose to put in it. That information is used only to read and reply to your message. It is not added to a mailing list, sold, or used for anything else.

Searching and filtering

Search, A–Z browsing and category filters all run on your own device. What you search for is never transmitted to us or to anyone else, and we keep no record of it.

Data stored on your device

The site uses your browser's local storage — not cookies — for two things:

  • Theme preference. Whether you chose light or dark mode, so the site doesn't flash the wrong theme next time.
  • Your shortlist. The traits you save while building a character, so they survive a page reload.

Both stay on your device and are readable only by this site. We cannot see either one. Clearing your browser's site data removes them, and blocking storage entirely still leaves the site working — you just lose the memory between visits.

Server logs

The site is hosted and served through third-party infrastructure, which may log standard technical information such as IP address, browser type and the page requested, for security and performance purposes and in line with that provider's own privacy policy. We do not use these logs to profile you.

Third parties

As you read the site, nothing on the page reaches out to another company: no third-party scripts, embeds, trackers or externally hosted fonts.

The one exception is the contact form. Submitting it sends your message to Formspree, a form-handling service that delivers it to us as email. Your details pass through and are stored by Formspree under its own privacy policy. Nothing is sent to them unless you submit the form.

Children

The site is a general-purpose reference and is not directed at children. We do not ask anyone to create an account, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Your rights

Privacy laws such as the GDPR and CCPA give you rights to access, correct and delete personal data held about you. The only personal data we ever hold is what you send through the contact form — ask us and we will delete it. Your theme choice and shortlist are not held by us at all; they are already entirely under your control in your own browser.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted here with a new date at the top. Continuing to use the site after that means you accept the revised policy.
