What makes a trait positive?

Positive character traits — often just called good character traits — are the qualities most people would want said about them: honest, kind, patient, brave. They are what character education programmes teach and what most heroes are built from. The good traits of character collected here are the ones that show up repeatedly in a person’s behaviour rather than on a single good day.

A word of warning for writers: a character assembled entirely from this page will be unreadable. Virtue with nothing pulling against it produces someone with no decisions to make. Pick two traits from here and one from the negative list, then write the situation where they cannot all be satisfied.
